Cost to keep

What it costs to own, by how long you keep it

Scheduled servicing only, from a brand-new CX-90 at 12,000 miles a year. Insurance, fuel, tires and depreciation are yours to add - this is the part the shop charges you for.

1 year12,000 mi$148$12
3 years36,000 mi$1,161$32

15 years180,000 mi$8,396$47

Per-month can dip as the horizon lengthens - a major service lands in one year and then averages out across all the months after it. The left column is what you actually spend.

Beyond the schedule, the first big-ticket item this CX-90 is known for is Jerky/clunky 8-speed automatic at low speed from about 0 miles (PCM/TCM software (warranty) / valve body $1,500-$2,500). It is a range, not a certainty - but it is the number to have in your head at the dealership.

Operator notes

Current flagship 3-row (launched 2024), still sold. 3.3L Skyactiv-G turbocharged inline-6 with 48V mild hybrid; timing CHAIN. Wet-clutch 8-speed auto needs periodic fluid service and is the dominant drivability complaint (many addressed via software/valve-body). Consumer Reports flagged below-average early reliability. Too new for true high-mileage data; profile reflects TSB/recall items. Normal = 7,500 mi/12 mo synthetic; severe ~5,000 mi.

When the smart money sells

Keeping it yourself, there is no cutoff - the table above runs to fifteen years. On fleet math, where a car has to keep earning, a gas CX-90 retires around 95,000 miles. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.

Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
