Mazda Mazda3 maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps
A compact sedan / hatchback with a gas powertrain. Below: the service intervals with real cost ranges, the repairs Mazda3 owners actually report, and when a fleet operator would sell. Same data Carlyle uses to score fleet buys.

Known repair windows
What Mazda3 owners actually run into
Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.

Operator notes
Current, still sold as sedan and hatchback. Engines: 2.0L and 2.5L Skyactiv-G NA plus 2.5L Turbo (AWD Turbo trims); all timing CHAIN (no belt). Post-June-2020 builds have the revised head that resolves the early-2.5 cracking TSB. Turbo spark plugs typically shorter life (~45k severe). Normal = 7,500 mi/12 mo synthetic; severe ~5,000 mi. FL-22 coolant ~10 yr/120k first change.
When the smart money sells
On fleet math, a gas Mazda3 retires around 95,000 miles - but the exit window opens earlier here: Cracked cylinder head / coolant leak (2.5, pre-June-2020) risk window ($2,500-$4,500) opens ~40,000 mi. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.
Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
