Chrysler Voyager maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps
A minivan with a gas powertrain. Below: the service intervals with real cost ranges, the repairs Voyager owners actually report, and the mileage windows worth buying ahead of - whether you are keeping it for yourself or putting it to work.
Service schedule
What it needs, and what that runs
| Interval | Service | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| 10,000 mi / 12 mo | Full-synthetic 0W-20 oil + filter; tire rotation; multipoint inspection | $70-$120 |
| 20,000 mi | Cabin air filter; inspect brake pads, CV boots; rotate tires | $60-$130 |
| 30,000 mi | Engine air filter; cabin air filter; inspect suspension, steering, exhaust; road test | $90-$190 |
| 60,000 mi | Brake fluid flush; replace engine + cabin air filters; inspect PCV, front-end, coolant condition | $170-$340 |
| 100,000 mi | Spark plugs (iridium, 3.6L V6 ~100k); inspect water pump, accessory belt; coolant change by 150k | $220-$420 |
| 60,000 mi | Transmission fluid + filter service | $300-$550 |
Known repair windows
What Voyager owners actually run into
Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.
9-speed 948TE (ZF 9HP) harsh shift / TCM software / valve body
medium severity30,000-120,000 mi · $500 (flash) to $2,500-$3,500 (unit)
Shared Pacifica-platform transmission; hard low-gear shifts and reflash campaigns; keep fluid fresh under fleet duty
Pentastar 3.6L oil filter housing / cooler leak
medium severity60,000-120,000 mi · $400-$700
Plastic housing cracks; oil/coolant weep — endemic Pentastar issue expected to carry over
Power sliding doors / liftgate actuators, cables, latches
medium severity40,000-120,000 mi · $300-$800 per door/gate
Same power-door hardware as Pacifica; motors/cables wear, especially under high-cycle fleet use
Internal (chain-driven) water pump
medium severity80,000-130,000 mi · $600-$1,000
Behind timing cover; labor-heavy; coolant seepage is the warning sign
Uconnect infotainment / electrical glitches
low severity30,000-100,000 mi · $300-$1,000
Screen reboots, camera/sensor faults; often addressable via software updates
Cost to keep
What it costs to own, by how long you keep it
Scheduled servicing only, from a brand-new Voyager at 12,000 miles a year. Insurance, fuel, tires and depreciation are yours to add - this is the part the shop charges you for.
| You keep it | Odometer | Servicing | Per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 year | 12,000 mi | $95 | $8 |
| 3 years | 36,000 mi | $520 | $14 |
| 5 years | 60,000 mi | $1,815 | $30 |
| 7 years | 84,000 mi | $2,100 | $25 |
| 10 years | 120,000 mi | $3,950 | $33 |
| 15 years | 180,000 mi | $5,765 | $32 |
Per-month can dip as the horizon lengthens - a major service lands in one year and then averages out across all the months after it. The left column is what you actually spend.
Operator notes
Revived for 2025 as the budget/fleet minivan below the Pacifica — single LX trim, gas 3.6L Pentastar V6 (287 hp), 9-speed 948TE, FWD; no hybrid option. Timing CHAIN — no belt. Mechanically a de-contented Pacifica, so it inherits the same known issues (Pentastar oil housing, 948TE, power doors). Because it targets fleet/livery buyers, the severe-service schedule (shorter oil and transmission intervals) applies to most units. Coolant Mopar OAT 10-yr/150k. As a new model its long-term failure data is projected from the shared platform.
When the smart money sells
Keeping it yourself, there is no cutoff - the table above runs to fifteen years. On fleet math, where a car has to keep earning, a gas Voyager retires around 95,000 miles. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.
Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
