Known repair windows
What C-Max Energi owners actually run into
Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.

Cost to keep
What it costs to own, by how long you keep it
Scheduled servicing only, from a brand-new C-Max Energi at 12,000 miles a year. Insurance, fuel, tires and depreciation are yours to add - this is the part the shop charges you for.
| You keep it | Odometer | Servicing | Per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 year | 12,000 mi | $115 | $10 |
| 3 years | 36,000 mi | $595 | $17 |
| 5 years | 60,000 mi | $1,190 | $20 |
| 7 years | 84,000 mi | $1,475 | $18 |
| 10 years | 120,000 mi | $2,985 | $25 |
| 15 years | 180,000 mi | $4,175 | $23 |
Per-month can dip as the horizon lengthens - a major service lands in one year and then averages out across all the months after it. The left column is what you actually spend.
Beyond the schedule, the first big-ticket item this C-Max Energi is known for is HV traction battery degradation from about 100,000 miles ($2,000-$4,500). It is a range, not a certainty - but it is the number to have in your head at the dealership.
Operator notes
Discontinued after 2017 (plug-in production ended Sept 2017). 2.0L Atkinson I4 + eCVT + ~7.6 kWh battery, ~19-20 mi EV range. Oil still required (10k/1yr synthetic). Regen braking makes pads/rotors last far longer. Multiple cooling loops (engine, inverter/DC-DC, battery). Timing chain.
When the smart money sells
Keeping it yourself, there is no cutoff - the table above runs to fifteen years. On fleet math, where a car has to keep earning, a phev C-Max Energi retires around 150,000 miles. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.
Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
