Chrysler Pacifica maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps

A minivan with a gas powertrain. Below: the service intervals with real cost ranges, the repairs Pacifica owners actually report, and the mileage windows worth buying ahead of - whether you are keeping it for yourself or putting it to work.

Known repair windows

What Pacifica owners actually run into

Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.

9-speed 948TE (ZF 9HP) harsh shift / TCM software / valve body

medium severity

30,000-120,000 mi · $500 (flash) to $2,500-$3,500 (unit)

Improved over the 200 but still sees hard 1-2 shifts and reflash campaigns; keep fluid fresh under fleet use

PHEV high-voltage battery (16 kWh LG) degradation / fire-risk recall

high severity

Any mileage · $0 under 10-yr/150k HV warranty; $8,000-$15,000+ out-of-warranty

PHEV only — multiple NHTSA fire recalls (BPCM software + pack replacement); owners told to park outside/not charge until fixed

Power sliding doors / liftgate actuators, cables, latches

medium severity

40,000-120,000 mi · $300-$800 per door/gate

Most common minivan complaint — motors, cables and sensors fail; doors stick or reverse

Pentastar 3.6L oil filter housing / cooler leak

medium severity

60,000-120,000 mi · $400-$700

Plastic housing cracks; oil/coolant weep — shared Pentastar defect

Internal (chain-driven) water pump

medium severity

80,000-130,000 mi · $600-$1,000

Behind timing cover; labor-heavy; coolant seepage is the warning sign

Uconnect infotainment / TIPM electrical glitches

low severity

30,000-100,000 mi · $300-$1,200

Screen freezes/reboots, camera faults, phantom electrical issues; some fixed by software

Cost to keep

What it costs to own, by how long you keep it

Scheduled servicing only, from a brand-new Pacifica at 12,000 miles a year. Insurance, fuel, tires and depreciation are yours to add - this is the part the shop charges you for.

You keep itOdometerServicingPer month
1 year12,000 mi$95$8
3 years36,000 mi$520$14
5 years60,000 mi$1,815$30
7 years84,000 mi$2,100$25
10 years120,000 mi$3,950$33
15 years180,000 mi$5,765$32

Per-month can dip as the horizon lengthens - a major service lands in one year and then averages out across all the months after it. The left column is what you actually spend.

Beyond the schedule, the first big-ticket item this Pacifica is known for is PHEV high-voltage battery (16 kWh LG) degradation / fire-risk recall ($0 under 10-yr/150k HV warranty; $8,000-$15,000+ out-of-warranty). It is a range, not a certainty - but it is the number to have in your head at the dealership.

Operator notes

Currently in production; 2025 offered gas 3.6L V6 (9-spd 948TE, FWD/AWD) and the plug-in hybrid, but the PHEV was DROPPED after 2025 (2026 is gas-only). Timing CHAIN — no belt. PHEV gets normal oil changes, but regen braking makes pads/rotors last far longer, and it carries a 10-yr/150k HV-battery warranty with active fire-risk recalls. Coolant Mopar OAT 10-yr/150k. Fleet/severe use shortens oil and transmission intervals.

When the smart money sells

Keeping it yourself, there is no cutoff - the table above runs to fifteen years. On fleet math, where a car has to keep earning, a gas Pacifica retires around 95,000 miles. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.

Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
