Known repair windows
What TSX owners actually run into
Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.

medium severity60,000-120,000 mi · $1,500-$3,000 rings/short-block
Known K24 batch issue; monitor oil level between changes.
Premature front brake pad/rotor wear & shimmy
low severity20,000-50,000 mi · $300-$500
Common Acura brake trait.
VTC cam-actuator cold-start rattle (2.4L)
low severity60,000-120,000 mi · $400-$700
Brief startup rattle; actuator/updated part fixes it.
AC condenser/compressor
medium severity60,000-120,000 mi · $600-$1,000
Warm-blowing AC on aging system.
Motor mounts / VCM oil use (V6)
low severity90,000-150,000 mi · $400-$1,200
Idle vibration; V6 shares J35 VCM oil-consumption trait.
Cost to keep
What it costs to own, by how long you keep it
Scheduled servicing only, from a brand-new TSX at 12,000 miles a year. Insurance, fuel, tires and depreciation are yours to add - this is the part the shop charges you for.
| You keep it | Odometer | Servicing | Per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 year | 12,000 mi | $95 | $8 |
| 3 years | 36,000 mi | $730 | $20 |
| 5 years | 60,000 mi | $1,560 | $26 |
| 7 years | 84,000 mi | $1,965 | $23 |
| 10 years | 120,000 mi | $3,370 | $28 |
| 15 years | 180,000 mi | $5,080 | $28 |
Per-month can dip as the horizon lengthens - a major service lands in one year and then averages out across all the months after it. The left column is what you actually spend.
Beyond the schedule, the first big-ticket item this TSX is known for is Excessive oil consumption (2009-2010 2.4L piston rings) from about 60,000 miles ($1,500-$3,000 rings/short-block). It is a range, not a certainty - but it is the number to have in your head at the dealership.
Operator notes
Two engines: 2.4L I4 (K24) uses a timing CHAIN; 3.5L V6 (J35, 2010-2014) uses a TIMING BELT - replace ~105k mi / 7 yr with water pump (interference engine). Synthetic oil on Maintenance Minder. Available as sedan and Sport Wagon. Final year 2014 (last TSX).
When the smart money sells
Keeping it yourself, there is no cutoff - the table above runs to fifteen years. On fleet math, where a car has to keep earning, a gas TSX retires around 95,000 miles. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.
Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
