Aston Martin Rapide maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps
A 4-door grand touring sedan (fastback) with a gas powertrain. Below: the service intervals with real cost ranges, the repairs Rapide owners actually report, and the mileage windows worth buying ahead of - whether you are keeping it for yourself or putting it to work.
Service schedule
What it needs, and what that runs
| Interval | Service | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| 10,000 mi / 12 mo | Oil + filter; multipoint inspection; brake/tire check; fluid top-offs; road test | $900-$1,500 |
| 20,000 mi / 24 mo | Oil + filter; brake fluid flush; cabin air filter; engine air filter; inspection | $1,300-$2,400 |
| 60,000 mi | All 12 spark plugs and 12 coil packs; ignition inspection | $1,500-$3,500 |
| 40,000 mi / 48 mo | Coolant drain/refill; hose and crossover-pipe inspection | $400-$1,000 |
Known repair windows
What Rapide owners actually run into
Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.
Coil pack failure / misfire
medium severity30,000-70,000 mi · $300-$1,800
Same 6.0L V12 coil issues as DB9; individual coils fail causing lumpy idle/misfire, labor-heavy at dealer.
Front-bank coolant crossover pipe / coolant leaks
medium severity40,000-90,000 mi · $1,500-$3,000
Alloy coolant pipes corrode/leak; engine access makes it a labor-intensive repair.
ZF 6-speed rear transaxle / differential service
medium severity60,000-120,000 mi · $1,000-$3,000
Rear-mounted ZF torque-converter auto is durable (no wearing clutch like Sportshift cars), but transaxle/diff fluid service and mounts are needed with age.
Suspension & subframe bushings
medium severity50,000-100,000 mi · $1,000-$3,000
Bushes perish with age causing clunks and vague handling.
Battery drain / electrical & A/C faults
low severityAny mileage · $200-$1,800
Parasitic drains, module faults and A/C issues common on aging cars; keep on a battery tender.
Cost to keep
What it costs to own, by how long you keep it
Scheduled servicing only, from a brand-new Rapide at 12,000 miles a year. Insurance, fuel, tires and depreciation are yours to add - this is the part the shop charges you for.
| You keep it | Odometer | Servicing | Per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 year | 12,000 mi | $1,200 | $100 |
| 3 years | 36,000 mi | $4,250 | $118 |
| 5 years | 60,000 mi | $8,650 | $144 |
| 7 years | 84,000 mi | $10,550 | $126 |
| 10 years | 120,000 mi | $17,300 | $144 |
| 15 years | 180,000 mi | $25,950 | $144 |
Per-month can dip as the horizon lengthens - a major service lands in one year and then averages out across all the months after it. The left column is what you actually spend.
Beyond the schedule, the first big-ticket item this Rapide is known for is Front-bank coolant crossover pipe / coolant leaks from about 40,000 miles ($1,500-$3,000). It is a range, not a certainty - but it is the number to have in your head at the dealership.
Operator notes
Original Rapide, discontinued 2013 (5.9/6.0L NA V12 ~470 hp), ZF 6-speed automatic rear transaxle (torque converter, so no Sportshift clutch wear). Timing chain engine. Era schedule: annual / 10,000-mile alternating minor and major, plugs+coils bundled around the 7th service. As an aging exotic, budget for perished rubber, coolant pipes, and electrical drains beyond mileage items.
When the smart money sells
Keeping it yourself, there is no cutoff - the table above runs to fifteen years. On fleet math, where a car has to keep earning, a gas Rapide retires around 95,000 miles. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.
Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
