Acura TL maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps
A midsize luxury sedan with a gas powertrain. Below: the service intervals with real cost ranges, the repairs TL owners actually report, and when a fleet operator would sell. Same data Carlyle uses to score fleet buys.

Known repair windows
What TL owners actually run into
Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.
Warped front rotors / premature brake wear (steering shimmy)
medium severity20,000-60,000 mi · $300-$600
Signature TL complaint; brake judder felt through wheel.
Torque-converter judder / automatic shudder
medium severity60,000-120,000 mi · $1,500-$3,500
5-speed (3.5) prone to converter judder; ATF neglect worsens it.
Power-steering pump/hose leaks
low severity80,000-140,000 mi · $400-$900
Hydraulic PS lines seep/whine with age.
HandsFreeLink/Bluetooth parasitic battery drain
low severityAny mileage · $150-$400
Failed HFL module drains battery overnight; often unplugged as a fix.
SH-AWD front tire wear / rear-diff service neglect
low severity60,000-120,000 mi · $500-$1,500
Uneven tire wear and rear-diff clutch issues if fluid not serviced.
Operator notes
Timing BELT engine (J35/J37 V6) - replace ~105k mi / 7 yr WITH water pump; it is an interference engine, so belt failure destroys the engine. Synthetic oil on Maintenance Minder. 3.5L (FWD) or 3.7L SH-AWD (needs rear-diff + transfer-case service); 6-speed manual available on SH-AWD. 4th gen (2009-2014), final year 2014.
When the smart money sells
On fleet math, a gas TL retires around 95,000 miles. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.
Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
