Known repair windows

What RDX owners actually run into

Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.

AC condenser / expansion-valve failure (blows warm)

medium severity

30,000-90,000 mi · $600-$1,100

Well-documented 3rd-gen RDX pattern; sometimes recurs after replacement.

Intake-valve carbon buildup (GDI 2.0T)

medium severity

50,000-100,000 mi · $400-$700 walnut-blast

Direct injection; deposits appear by ~50-60k.

Fuel/oil dilution & VTC actuator cold-start rattle

low severity

10,000-70,000 mi · $0-$600

Gasoline-in-oil in cold use; brief startup rattle from VTC actuator.

10-speed auto hesitation / shift-quality

low severity

0-60,000 mi · $0 (reflash) to $3,500

Software-addressable in most cases.

Cooling-system leaks (water pump/thermostat/radiator)

medium severity

70,000-130,000 mi · $700-$2,000

Turbo cooling circuit; overheating if neglected.

True Touchpad infotainment complaints

low severity

Any mileage · $0-$1,200

Learning-curve/usability; occasional module fault.

Operator notes

Timing CHAIN. K20C 2.0T is good for 200k+ with care. Direct-injected turbo - shorten oil to ~5,000 mi in cold/short-trip use. SH-AWD needs rear-diff and transfer-case fluid service. Acura's bestseller; refreshed 2022 with minor updates since. Full-synthetic 0W-20.

When the smart money sells

On fleet math, a gas RDX retires around 95,000 miles. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.

Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
