Volkswagen Jetta maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps

What Jetta owners actually run into

Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.

Cost to keep

What it costs to own, by how long you keep it

Scheduled servicing only, from a brand-new Jetta at 12,000 miles a year. Insurance, fuel, tires and depreciation are yours to add - this is the part the shop charges you for.

1 year12,000 mi$145$12
3 years36,000 mi$655$18

Per-month can dip as the horizon lengthens - a major service lands in one year and then averages out across all the months after it. The left column is what you actually spend.

Operator notes

MK7 (2019+); 2022+ US Jetta uses the 1.5 TSI EA211 evo2 (158 hp) with 8-speed Aisin automatic (6-speed manual on Sport). Important: the 1.5T uses an oil-immersed WET timing BELT, not a chain - a real long-term wear item. Full synthetic VW 508 00, 10k/1yr; severe service ~5k.

When the smart money sells

Keeping it yourself, there is no cutoff - the table above runs to fifteen years. On fleet math, where a car has to keep earning, a gas Jetta retires around 95,000 miles. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.

Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
