Maserati Levante maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps

Known repair windows

What Levante owners actually run into

Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.

Air suspension failure (standard equipment)

high severity

40,000-90,000 mi · $2,000-$5,000

'Service Air Suspension System' + loss of height control; compressor, valve block and strut/mount replacement with long parts lead time

Timing chain tensioner (F160 3.0 twin-turbo V6)

high severity

60,000-100,000 mi · $3,000-$6,000

Startup knock/rattle from worn tensioner; timing chain, not belt

Transmission control module (ZF 8-speed TCM)

high severity

30,000-70,000 mi · $1,500-$3,000

TCM prone to early failure causing shift faults/limp mode

Cooling system / plastic thermostat housing leak

medium severity

40,000-80,000 mi · $600-$1,500

Overheating / coolant seepage

Infotainment / electrical glitches

medium severity

30,000-50,000 mi · $1,500-$3,000

Heavy SUV, performance Brembo brakes

Cost to keep

What it costs to own, by how long you keep it

Scheduled servicing only, from a brand-new Levante at 12,000 miles a year. Insurance, fuel, tires and depreciation are yours to add - this is the part the shop charges you for.

You keep itOdometerServicingPer month
1 year12,000 mi$0$0
3 years36,000 mi$2,800$78
5 years60,000 mi$9,900$165
7 years84,000 mi$14,500$173
10 years120,000 mi$22,350$186
15 years180,000 mi$34,300$191

Per-month can dip as the horizon lengthens - a major service lands in one year and then averages out across all the months after it. The left column is what you actually spend.

Beyond the schedule, the first big-ticket item this Levante is known for is Transmission control module (ZF 8-speed TCM) from about 30,000 miles ($1,500-$3,000). It is a range, not a certainty - but it is the number to have in your head at the dealership.

Operator notes

Timing CHAIN (no belt interval); accessory belts ~4 yr/50k. Ferrari-built F160 3.0L twin-turbo V6; V8 (Trofeo/GTS 550-590 hp) was dropped for 2024, final line was ~424 hp with a Trofeo Ultima sendoff edition. Air suspension is standard and a leading big-ticket item. Annual or ~12,500 mi service, full-synthetic Euro oil. A European-market 3.0 V6 diesel (with DPF/EGR/glow plugs) was never sold in the US. Production ended March 2024; 2024 is the final model year (discontinued).

When the smart money sells

Keeping it yourself, there is no cutoff - the table above runs to fifteen years. On fleet math, where a car has to keep earning, a gas Levante retires around 95,000 miles - but the exit window opens earlier here: Transmission control module (ZF 8-speed TCM) risk window ($1,500-$3,000) opens ~30,000 mi. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.

Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
