Mazda CX-3 maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps

A subcompact crossover SUV with a gas powertrain. Below: the service intervals with real cost ranges, the repairs CX-3 owners actually report, and the mileage windows worth buying ahead of - whether you are keeping it for yourself or putting it to work.

Known repair windows

What CX-3 owners actually run into

Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.

GDI intake-valve carbon buildup

Direct-injection 2.0L Skyactiv-G; rough cold starts/misfire; walnut-blast cleaning

Common exposed-condenser weakness across the Mazda lineup

Mazda Connect infotainment freeze/CMU

Cost to keep

What it costs to own, by how long you keep it

Scheduled servicing only, from a brand-new CX-3 at 12,000 miles a year. Insurance, fuel, tires and depreciation are yours to add - this is the part the shop charges you for.

You keep itOdometerServicingPer month
1 year12,000 mi$110$9
3 years36,000 mi$915$25
5 years60,000 mi$2,045$34
7 years84,000 mi$2,500$30
10 years120,000 mi$4,255$35
15 years180,000 mi$6,250$35

Per-month can dip as the horizon lengthens - a major service lands in one year and then averages out across all the months after it. The left column is what you actually spend.

Operator notes

Discontinued after 2021 in the US and globally (replaced by CX-30). 2.0L Skyactiv-G uses a timing CHAIN, no belt interval. Schedule 1 (normal) = 7,500 mi/12 mo synthetic oil; Schedule 2 (severe: short trips, dust, towing) shortens to ~5,000 mi. Mazda FL-22 long-life coolant first change ~10 yr/120k. Age-related items (rubber hoses, bushings, brakes) now dominate on used examples.

When the smart money sells

Keeping it yourself, there is no cutoff - the table above runs to fifteen years. On fleet math, where a car has to keep earning, a gas CX-3 retires around 95,000 miles. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.

Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
