Infiniti QX80 maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps

A full-size luxury SUV with a gas powertrain. Below: the service intervals with real cost ranges, the repairs QX80 owners actually report, and when a fleet operator would sell. Same data Carlyle uses to score fleet buys.

Known repair windows

What QX80 owners actually run into

Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.

Twin-turbo VR35DDTT turbo / wastegate / carbon buildup

medium severity

60,000-110,000 mi · $1,500-$3,500

All-new 3.5L twin-turbo V6 (450 hp) for the 2025 redesign; long-term data limited. Related VR-family engines have shown turbo and GDI intake-carbon issues — watch oil consumption and boost.

Rearview / around-view camera blank screen

low severity

0-25,000 mi · $0-$300

2024-2025 software recall — camera shows blank on reverse; corrected by dealer software update.

Air suspension (adaptive) component failure

medium severity

60,000-120,000 mi · $1,200-$2,500

New generation runs air ride; compressor and struts are age/mileage wear items on Infiniti full-size SUVs.

GDI intake-valve carbon buildup

medium severity

70,000-110,000 mi · $500-$900

Direct-injection engine; periodic walnut-blast decarbon; top-tier fuel helps.

Dual-screen infotainment glitches

low severity

10,000-70,000 mi · $150-$1,200

New Google-built-in dual-display system; freezes/faults often fixed via updates.

Operator notes

Latest year assumed 2025, the all-new THIRD generation (2026 also on sale). This redesign replaces the long-running 5.6L VK56VD V8 + 7-speed with a 3.5L twin-turbo VR35DDTT V6 (450 hp / ~516 lb-ft) and 9-speed automatic. Timing CHAIN, not belt. Premium fuel strongly recommended for the twin-turbo. Being brand-new, long-term reliability is unproven; the prior 2014-2024 V8 generation was known for timing-chain and hydraulic brake-actuator issues, which the new powertrain does not carry over. Synthetic oil 7,500 mi; severe service (towing, dusty, short trips) ~3,750 mi.

When the smart money sells

On fleet math, a gas QX80 retires around 95,000 miles. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.

Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
