Acura NSX maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps
A hybrid supercar (mid-engine coupe) with a hybrid powertrain. Below: the service intervals with real cost ranges, the repairs NSX owners actually report, and when a fleet operator would sell. Same data Carlyle uses to score fleet buys.
Service schedule
What it needs, and what that runs
| Interval | Service | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| 7,500 mi / 12 mo | Synthetic oil + filter; tire rotation; HV system health check; multipoint inspection | $400-$900 (dealer/specialist) |
| 15,000 mi / 24 mo | Engine + cabin air filters; brake fluid; inspect 9-speed DCT; HV cooling check | $800-$1,500 |
| 30,000 mi | 9-speed DCT fluid; brake fluid; engine + hybrid-loop coolant checks | $1,500-$3,000 |
| 60,000 mi | Spark plugs; coolant replace; DCT clutch inspection; valve-clearance inspection; brakes | $3,000-$6,000+ |
Known repair windows
What NSX owners actually run into
Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.
9-speed DCT clutch / mechatronic service
high severity30,000-70,000 mi · $4,000-$8,000
Dual-clutch is service-intensive; hard launches accelerate clutch wear.
HV lithium-ion battery degradation
high severityAny mileage · $6,000-$12,000 pack
3-motor hybrid pack; capacity fade with age/heat; regen brakes last far longer as offset.
Twin-turbo plumbing / intercooler water pumps
medium severity40,000-90,000 mi · $2,000-$5,000
Complex forced-induction + liquid intercooling.
12V battery drain when stored
low severityAny mileage · $200-$600
Garage-queen usage; keep on a battery tender to avoid dead 12V/HV wake issues.
Carbon-ceramic brake replacement (if equipped)
high severityAny mileage · $8,000-$15,000
Optional CCB rotors; very costly on track cars.
Operator notes
Exotic/hybrid supercar - service is largely TIME/annual-based, not just mileage. Minor annual service ~$1,000; major service several thousand. Timing CHAIN (twin-turbo JNC1 V6). Low-mileage cars still need annual fluids and a battery tender. Final year 2022 (Type S, ~350 US units). Hybrid = still gets oil changes; regen braking greatly extends pad/rotor life.
When the smart money sells
On fleet math, a hybrid NSX retires around 150,000 miles - but the exit window opens earlier here: 9-speed DCT clutch / mechatronic service risk window ($4,000-$8,000) opens ~30,000 mi. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.
Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
