Honda Prologue maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps

A EV crossover SUV with a battery-electric powertrain. Below: the service intervals with real cost ranges, the repairs Prologue owners actually report, and when a fleet operator would sell. Same data Carlyle uses to score fleet buys.

Service schedule

What it needs, and what that runs

IntervalServiceTypical cost
7,500 mi / 12 moTire rotation; multi-point & brake inspection; check cabin filter, wipers, coolant level; top off washer fluid (NO oil change)$40-$90
15,000 miReplace cabin (pollen) air filter; tire rotation; inspect brakes & suspension$70-$150
36,000 mi / 36 moBrake fluid flush; tire rotation; inspection$110-$190
75,000 miInspect drive-unit/reduction-gear fluid; inspect battery & power-electronics coolant$100-$260
150,000 mi / 120 moReplace battery & drive-unit (inverter/motor) coolant$150-$400

Known repair windows

What Prologue owners actually run into

Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.

Front lower control arm fracture (recall)

high severity

0-30,000 mi · $0 (recall)

2024 Prologue safety recall — arm can crack; free replacement

Instrument-panel display / rearview-camera software failure (recall)

medium severity

0-40,000 mi · $0 (recall reflash)

Shared GM-Ultium electronics; blank IPC or blank reverse camera

CV axle / half-shaft failure (clicking, loss of drive)

high severity

10,000-70,000 mi · $500-$1,200

Reported joint failures can cut power to the wheels

HV battery degradation / replacement

high severity

Any mileage · $15,000-$20,000 (warranted 8yr/100k)

Ultium ~85 kWh pack; gradual range loss; full replacement rare and usually under warranty

12V battery failure

low severity

30,000-70,000 mi · $200-$300

EV still uses a 12V; failure can disable start-up/systems

Overaggressive automatic braking / ADAS + charging software glitches

medium severity

Any mileage · $0-$1,000

Software calibration; often OTA or dealer reflash

Operator notes

EV — NO oil changes, NO spark plugs, NO transmission fluid. Built on GM Ultium platform (mechanical twin of Chevy Blazer EV), ~85 kWh battery, single- or dual-motor. Scheduled service is mostly tires, cabin filter, brake fluid, and long-interval battery/inverter coolant. One-pedal/regen driving makes friction brakes last very long (still flush fluid on time; unused calipers can seize). First-gen, GM-shared electronics drove several early recalls/software campaigns — keep recall completion and OTA updates current.

When the smart money sells

On fleet math, a battery-electric Prologue retires around 150,000 miles - but the exit window opens earlier here: inside the Front lower control arm fracture (recall) risk window ($0 (recall)). Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.

Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
