Dodge Durango maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps

A midsize 3-row SUV with a gas powertrain. Below: the service intervals with real cost ranges, the repairs Durango owners actually report, and when a fleet operator would sell. Same data Carlyle uses to score fleet buys.

Known repair windows

What Durango owners actually run into

Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.

5.7L HEMI lifter / camshaft failure ('HEMI tick')

high severity

70,000-130,000 mi · $2,500-$5,000

MDS lifter collapse scores cam; ticking to misfire

Exhaust manifold bolts shear (HEMI)

medium severity

70,000-130,000 mi · $300-$800

Cold-start exhaust tick

Water pump

medium severity

80,000-120,000 mi · $400-$800

Both engine families; coolant seep/overheat

AC condenser / compressor

AWD/tow use; whine, vibration

Supercharger / brakes / tires (SRT 392 & Hellcat)

high severity

20,000-90,000 mi · $1,200-$3,000

6.2 SC Hellcat snout bearing; SRT trims wear brakes/tires fast

Operator notes

Still in production (2025); latest of the WD-platform Durango. Timing CHAIN on all engines (3.6 Pentastar, 5.7 HEMI, 6.4 SRT 392, 6.2 SC Hellcat). RWD/AWD. Early 3.6 (2011-2013) had a left-head rocker/valve-seat issue, resolved on modern units. 91+ octane on HEMI/SRT. Towing/severe use halves fluid intervals.

When the smart money sells

On fleet math, a gas Durango retires around 95,000 miles - but the exit window opens earlier here: Supercharger / brakes / tires (SRT 392 & Hellcat) risk window ($1,200-$3,000) opens ~20,000 mi. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.

Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
