Vanderhall Venice maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps
A 3-wheel roadster (autocycle) with a gas powertrain. Below: the service intervals with real cost ranges, the repairs Venice owners actually report, and when a fleet operator would sell. Same data Carlyle uses to score fleet buys.
Service schedule
What it needs, and what that runs
| Interval | Service | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| 5,000 mi | Full-synthetic oil & filter change (GM dexos1 Gen2, 0W-20/5W-30), oil-life reset, tire pressure/condition, chassis fastener and steering-boot check, accessory drive belt inspection, brake pad inspection. Low-mileage recreational use - change oil at least annually regardless of miles. | $90-$160 |
| 30,000 mi / 24 mo | Engine air filter replacement, brake fluid flush, suspension/steering and single-rear-wheel bearing inspection, wiper/heater check, throttle body inspection. | $180-$400 |
| 60,000 mi | Iridium spark plugs (turbo GDI), GM 6-speed automatic transmission fluid service, GDI intake-valve decarbon/cleaning, cooling system and turbo plumbing inspection. | $550-$1,050 |
| 150,000 mi / 60 mo | Dexcool engine coolant flush and refill, water pump and thermostat inspection. | $130-$260 |
Known repair windows
What Venice owners actually run into
Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.
Front driveshaft/CV axle boot failure & front axle corrosion
medium severity0-25,000 mi · $300-$700 per axle
Vanderhall acknowledged defective driveshaft boots; uncoated front axles surface-rust and boots split. Many owners had both front axles replaced under warranty.
Rear wheel bearing / hub failure
high severity10,000-45,000 mi · $250-$600
Documented on Venice forums, including a dealer report of a rear wheel coming off. Single rear wheel makes bearing health safety-critical.
GDI intake-valve carbon buildup
medium severity40,000-80,000 mi · $400-$800
Direct-injection GM 1.5L LFV; intake-valve carbon accumulation. GM TSB 20-NA-047 recommends Top Tier fuel and shorter oil intervals; walnut-blast cleaning fix.
Turbocharger and PCV system failure
medium severity50,000-100,000 mi · $600-$2,000
LFV turbo failures reported in cold climates; PCV clogging leads to oil leaks, sludge and rough running. PCV repair $200-$600; turbo replacement higher.
Piston / oil-pressure pre-ignition damage (LFV family)
high severity50,000-100,000 mi · $3,000-$6,000
Early GM 1.5L LFV cracked-piston/low-oil-pressure risk; monitor oil consumption. Less common on 2022+ builds but inherent to the engine family.
Rear single tire wear & alignment, plus build-quality/electrical gremlins
low severity0-30,000 mi · $150-$500
Wide single rear tire wears and needs alignment; hand-assembled low-volume build brings loose trim, steering-column dust-boot misinstallation, speedometer accuracy and 12V battery drain from storage.
Operator notes
Original Vanderhall model (launched 2016/2017), still current for 2025 in Venice, Venice GT and Venice GTS trims. Powertrain is GM's 1.5L turbo I4 (LFV, 194 hp) since 2020 (earlier cars used a 1.4L turbo) with a GM 6-speed automatic driving the two front wheels; TIMING CHAIN engine, so NO timing belt replacement. Follows GM LFV/6-speed intervals via oil-life monitor, but low recreational mileage means change oil at least yearly; use Top Tier fuel and shorter oil intervals to limit GDI carbon. Owner's-manual oil-spec inconsistency noted (cap 0W-20 vs manual 5W-30). No conventional tire rotation
When the smart money sells
On fleet math, a gas Venice retires around 95,000 miles - but the exit window opens earlier here: Rear wheel bearing / hub failure risk window ($250-$600) opens ~10,000 mi. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.
Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
