Mini Countryman maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps
A subcompact/compact crossover SUV with a gas powertrain. Below: the service intervals with real cost ranges, the repairs Countryman owners actually report, and when a fleet operator would sell. Same data Carlyle uses to score fleet buys.
Service schedule
What it needs, and what that runs
| Interval | Service | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| 10,000 mi / 12 mo | Full-synthetic oil & filter change, tire rotation, multipoint inspection, service reset | $140-$200 |
| 30,000 mi | Engine air filter, cabin/micro filter, oil service, brake fluid flush (2-yr), ALL4 AWD/inspection check | $375-$600 |
| 60,000 mi | Spark plugs (B48 turbo), oil, air & cabin filters, brake fluid, 7-spd DCT clutch/fluid service, transfer-case/rear-diff fluid (ALL4), coolant check | $800-$1,400 |
| 100,000 mi | Coolant flush, transmission fluid, spark plugs, accessory belt, AWD driveline service, full inspection | $900-$1,700 |
Known repair windows
What Countryman owners actually run into
Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.
Oil filter housing gasket / valve cover leaks (B48)
medium severity50,000-90,000 mi · $400-$800
Inherited BMW 4-cyl leak pattern; platform is new but the engine family's weak points carry over.
GDI intake-valve carbon buildup
medium severity60,000-100,000 mi · $450-$700
Direct-injection deposits expected long-term; walnut-blast decarbon.
Water pump / thermostat / coolant loss
medium severity60,000-100,000 mi · $550-$1,000
Plastic coolant components; standard BMW-family attrition item.
Turbocharger failure
high severity90,000-140,000 mi · $1,900-$3,200
Long-term risk on the 241-hp B48; S ALL4 works the turbo harder.
OLED infotainment / software glitches
low severity0-40,000 mi · $0-$1,200
New round-OLED system and driver-assist software can bug out; often dealer software fixes under warranty.
Operator notes
All-new U25 generation (2025+, now built in Germany, larger than before). Gas volume model is the Cooper S ALL4 (2.0L B48 turbo, ~241 hp, 7-spd DCT, AWD) - powertrain listed as gas on that basis. A fully electric Countryman SE ALL4 (dual-motor, ~308 hp, ~212 mi range) is also offered; if the vehicle is the SE EV, it takes NO oil changes and its big-ticket items shift to HV-battery degradation, drive units, 12V battery and MCU rather than the engine items above (regen braking makes friction brakes last much longer). Too new for a deep failure record; entries above are inherited-platform expecta
When the smart money sells
On fleet math, a gas Countryman retires around 95,000 miles - but the exit window opens earlier here: Turbocharger failure risk window ($1,900-$3,200) opens ~90,000 mi. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.
Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
