Ford Mustang GT maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps
A sports coupe (V8) with a gas powertrain. Below: the service intervals with real cost ranges, the repairs Mustang GT owners actually report, and when a fleet operator would sell. Same data Carlyle uses to score fleet buys.

What it needs, and what that runs

| 30,000 mi / 36 mo | Brake fluid flush | $120-$200 |

Known repair windows
What Mustang GT owners actually run into
Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.
Oil consumption / piston-ring seating (5.0 Coyote)
medium severity60,000-120,000 mi · $500-$4,000
Some Coyotes burn oil; check level between changes, especially if tracked
Timing-chain tensioner / guide wear
medium severityAny mileage · $1,500-$3,000
Failed tensioner risks valve-piston contact; listen for rattle
Low-pressure fuel pump failure (2025 recall)
medium severity0-60,000 mi · $0 under recall; $400-$900 otherwise
~850k Coyote-powered vehicles recalled 2025 for LPFP; stall risk
'Coyote tick' / injector noise
low severityAny mileage · $0-$200
Usually benign GDI injector/timing tick at cold idle
Clutch wear (6-speed manual)
medium severity40,000-90,000 mi · $1,200-$2,500
Track/launch abuse shortens life
Operator notes
In production (S650 GT). 5.0L Coyote V8 (~480-486 hp). Requires full synthetic 5W-20, ~10 qt. IOLM ~7,500-10,000 mi normal; halve to 5,000 for track/towing and reset IOLM. Timing chain (no belt). Tremec 6-speed manual or 10R80 10-speed auto. Note 2021-22 intake-valve-fracture recall on earlier Coyotes and 2025 LPFP recall.
When the smart money sells
On fleet math, a gas Mustang GT retires around 95,000 miles. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.
Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
