Ford Edge maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps
A midsize 2-row crossover SUV with a gas powertrain. Below: the service intervals with real cost ranges, the repairs Edge owners actually report, and when a fleet operator would sell. Same data Carlyle uses to score fleet buys.
Service schedule
What it needs, and what that runs
| Interval | Service | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| 10,000 mi / 12 mo | Synthetic oil & filter; tire rotation; multi-point inspection; top off fluids | $90-$170 |
| 20,000 mi / 24 mo | Replace cabin air filter; inspect engine air filter & brakes (plus oil & rotation) | $140-$250 |
| 30,000 mi / 36 mo | Replace engine air filter; brake fluid flush; inspect suspension (plus oil & rotation) | $250-$450 |
| 60,000 mi | Spark plugs (turbo); brake fluid; PTU & rear-diff fluid (AWD); coolant check; 8-speed fluid check | $500-$950 |
| 100,000 mi | Engine coolant change; 8F35 transmission fluid; PTU/RDU fluid; accessory belt; spark plugs if not done | $700-$1,300 |
Known repair windows
What Edge owners actually run into
Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.
2.0L EcoBoost internal water-pump failure (coolant into oil)
high severity80,000-130,000 mi · $1,500-$2,800
Chain-driven internal pump; failure contaminates oil and can destroy bearings
Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure, AWD
high severity70,000-120,000 mi · $1,200-$2,500
Overheats, seal leaks, whine; fluid rarely serviced from factory
Carbon buildup on intake valves (GDI)
medium severity60,000-110,000 mi · $400-$800
Direct injection fouling; misfire/rough idle; walnut-blast clean
Cam phaser / timing-chain rattle (esp. 2.7L)
medium severity80,000-140,000 mi · $1,500-$3,000
Cold-start rattle; phaser/tensioner wear
A/C condenser leaks & SYNC/door-ajar sensor faults
low severity40,000-100,000 mi · $300-$1,100
Recurrent Ford condenser failures; nuisance door-ajar and infotainment glitches
Operator notes
North American Edge discontinued; final build April 2024 (2024 model year). 2.0L EcoBoost I4 turbo standard, 2.7L EcoBoost V6 in ST; 8F35 8-speed auto. Timing CHAIN. 2.0L has a chain-driven INTERNAL water pump whose failure can dump coolant into oil. Turbo plugs ~60k. AWD adds PTU.
When the smart money sells
On fleet math, a gas Edge retires around 95,000 miles - but the exit window opens earlier here: Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure, AWD risk window ($1,200-$2,500) opens ~70,000 mi. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.
Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
