Can-Am Ryker 900 maintenance: the schedule, the costs, the traps

A 3-wheel roadster (open trike, twist-and-go automatic) with a gas powertrain. Below: the service intervals with real cost ranges, the repairs Ryker 900 owners actually report, and the mileage windows worth buying ahead of - whether you are keeping it for yourself or putting it to work.

Service schedule

What it needs, and what that runs

IntervalServiceCost
600 miInitial oil + filter change; full torque/fastener inspection; CVT and final drive belt inspection; coolant level; road test$150-$270
6,000 mi / 12 moRotax 900 ACE (3-cyl) synthetic oil + filter; engine air filter + CVT/belt-housing air filter; inspect & tension final drive belt; inspect CVT drive belt; coolant level; brake inspection; blow out radiator. NO valve adjustment (ACE)$210-$410
12,000 mi / 24 moAbove PLUS spark plugs; coolant flush/replace; CVT drive belt inspect/replace by condition; brake fluid flush; sprocket/pulley wear check$370-$680

Known repair windows

What Ryker 900 owners actually run into

Mileage ranges where these repairs typically show up. Buying above a window is not automatically a pass - it just needs to be priced in.

CVT drive belt wear / slippage (clunk, Limp Home Mode)

medium severity

12,000-20,000 mi · $300-$700

Same CVT trait as 600 but the higher-torque 900 loads the belt harder; slip + LHM at speed. Inspect/replace by condition

Overheating / undersized cooling system

medium severity

Any mileage · $150-$500

3-cyl makes more heat than the 600; keep radiator clear, watch temp in traffic

Rear knuckle / wheel bearing wear

low severity

15,000-30,000 mi · $200-$500

Bearing/knuckle noise and clunks reported across the Ryker line

Coolant reservoir / antifreeze leak

low severity

Any mileage · $100-$250

Reservoir cracking/seepage is a common minor complaint

Electrical / hard-start / wiring faults

low severity

Any mileage · $100-$450

Battery/ground/connector issues; weak battery scrambles ECU and sets codes

Cost to keep

What it costs to own, by how long you keep it

Scheduled servicing only, from a brand-new Ryker 900 at 12,000 miles a year. Insurance, fuel, tires and depreciation are yours to add - this is the part the shop charges you for.

You keep itOdometerServicingPer month
1 year12,000 mi$1,045$87
3 years36,000 mi$2,715$75
5 years60,000 mi$4,385$73
7 years84,000 mi$6,055$72
10 years120,000 mi$8,560$71
15 years180,000 mi$12,735$71

Per-month can dip as the horizon lengthens - a major service lands in one year and then averages out across all the months after it. The left column is what you actually spend.

Operator notes

Rally-capable Ryker with Rotax 900 ACE 3-cyl and fully automatic CVT. Same BRP annual-or-10,000 km schedule and full-synthetic oil as the 600; NO valve adjustments (ACE). Toothed belt final drive, no chain. 900 Rally trim adds slightly beefier components for light off-road but same core powertrain service. Age/annual service usually governs over mileage.

When the smart money sells

Keeping it yourself, there is no cutoff - the table above runs to fifteen years. On fleet math, where a car has to keep earning, a gas Ryker 900 retires around 95,000 miles. Carlyle's garage tracks this per car, against your actual odometer.

Cost ranges are typical US independent-shop estimates and vary by region and condition. Modeling, not mechanic advice - always confirm against your car's service records.
